Real World Self-defence CoursesClasses

Self-defence mini-courses tailored to your specific requirements are available by special arrangement. While such a course isn't a substitute for regular training and practice, it allows us to go into greater depth than a workshop and provides a foundation in basic self-defence concepts and techniques. Click here for a sample outline for a six session mini-course.

We start with basic theory and techniques, but just learning a concept or technique is rarely sufficient. Without regular practice you may not be ready to respond appropriately, on demand in a timely manner. Our courses offer the opportunity to learn and perfect basic as well as more advanced techniques, but, more importantly, they allow us to review and practise what we've already learned, and, through repitition, to program our responses so we don't have to stop and think about what to do, losing critical time. They also offer the opportunity to role play, workshop and problem-solve to test and develop appropriate responses to situations drawn from personal experience, current events or other sources.

Course content is aimed at anyone who wants to learn and refine self-defence sensibilities, skills and techniques, from beginners to experienced martial artists training in any discipline. The concepts and techniques we teach and practise are not tied to any specific martial arts system, but are drawn from a wide range of sources and are geared to real world situations, employing techniques and strategies anyone can learn and apply. What we cover is tailored to the interests, abilities and requirements of participants and may include basic and advanced release techniques, ground and throw techniques and situational or freestyle self-defence.
